Robbers On High Street preview new album in LA
Robbers On High Street previewed brand-new material from their forthcoming album, 'Grand Animals', at the Troubadour in Los Angeles this weekend.
Playing a sold-out show on Saturday (May 19) and a second night on Sunday (May 20), the New York quintet ran through their new album (due out July 10) almost in its entirety, playing only a few songs from their 2005 debut, 'Tree City'.
"We played softball today and (guitarist) Steve (Mercado) struck out twice but he pitched a winner," frontman Ben Trokan told the enthusiastic crowd Sunday night.
Without saying much more than that, the band easily breezed through new tunes including the lively album opener 'Across Your Knee' and 'Nasty Numbers' with its Beatles-esque harmonies.
Toward the end of their 50-minute set, the band played a cover of John Lennon's 'Remember' before closing with 'Spanish Teeth'.
"Tonight's crowd was rowdier than last night's, which I liked," Trokan told NME.COM after their set. "Playing in LA is great--it's kind of like New York,"he added.
The band played:
'Beneath The Trees'
'Crown Victoria'
'Your Phantom Walks The Hall'
'Descender'
'Across Your Knee'
'Hudson Tubes'
'Married Young'
'Nasty Numbers'
'The Fatalist'
'Remember'
'Spanish Teeth'
